When you are your own Therapist.

Sometimes, life hits you at your lowest, at a time when you barely have the energy to hold yourself together. And somehow, the same life expects you to keep going as if nothing happened.

Sometimes, you want to disappear. To go somewhere far away, where nobody knows you, where nobody expects anything from you, where you can simply exist without having to be anything for anyone. And then, almost instantly, another part of you wants to stay. To see what tomorrow brings. To find out if all these efforts will eventually lead somewhere beautiful. To give yourself another chance.

Perhaps that’s what being human is. Wanting to run away and wanting to stay. Sometimes within the same minute.

Sometimes, all you want is to go to that person, sit beside them, talk about everything that’s been weighing on your heart, show them the version of you that isn’t strong, isn’t sorted. You want to vent out without having to explain yourself. But then, you pause. Because you realise that they might be fighting battles of their own. They might be trying to hold themselves together too. And suddenly, the words you wanted to say remain somewhere between your heart and your throat.

So, you tell yourself, “It’s okay, I’ll figure it out.” And you do. Or at least, you try to.

Sometimes, you become your own therapist. You question your thoughts, argue with your fears, talk yourself out of overthinking, wipe your own tears, stay silent and find reasons to get out of the bed next morning. You learn to comfort yourself in ways you once hoped.

And the funny thing is, people might look at you and think you have it figured out. Little do they know how many silent battles you’ve fought just to appear okay. But that’s okay.

Here’s something I’m learning. You don’t have to feel okay to keep moving forward. You can have a bad day without turning it into a bad life. You can feel lost without giving up on where you want to go. You can acknowledge that you’re tired without deciding that you’re incapable.

Life will not wait until you have healed. Sometimes, you have to take things one day at a time. Sometimes, all you can do is the bare minimum and remind yourself that a pause is not the same as giving up.

Give yourself grace, but don’t abandon yourself. Rest when you need to. But on the days when you have to be on your own shoulder to lean on, be kind to yourself. Speak to yourself the way you would speak to someone you love. Remind yourself of how far you’ve come.

Because one day, you might look back at the version of yourself - the one who was confused, exhausted, uncertain, and still trying - and realise that they were stronger, braver, and more resilient than they ever gave themselves credit for.

And until that day comes, keep showing up for yourself.

Not because you have everything figured out. Not because you’re always motivated. Not because you never breakdown.

But because, at the end of the day, your goals, your ambitions, your dreams, and the life you want to build don’t really care about your mood. So why aren’t we running like we’re on fire towards our wildest dreams?!

You don’t need to feel ready to begin. You don’t need endless motivation to take the next step. Sometimes, you simply have to move. Because, the life you dream about is waiting for the version of you who refuses to stop reaching for it.
